Hello, and happy Wednesday!
This week’s challenge is an easy, and dare I even say fun, one. 😉
Week in and week out, these challenges are meant to help you apply some small part of Monday’s article so that your life and mind are pushed gently, subtly, in a more generous direction.
And today, that direction is towards lightness.
Here’s how to use this week’s colorful, squiggly doc.
On the left (boring) side of the page, write down three tasks you must complete this week. They can be life errands, work duties, etc. Big or small, just normal things you need to get done that aren’t particularly interesting or exciting.
Next, reference the list of fun’s qualities from Monday’s piece (e.g., simplicity, energy, connection, newness, etc.) and choose three that stick out to you (if there’s a word or idea that really embodies fun for you, go ahead and add it).
Now, it’s time to mush ‘em together like a couple of excited newlyweds! Take the first task on your boring list side and inject it with one of the “fun” qualities you chose. For example, a trip to the post office combined with connection could mean inviting a friend to go with you. Injecting newness could mean taking a new route to get there or walking instead of driving. The point is that some part of the original task is transformed by the change (aka the fun filter).
Write the newly transformed to-do on the right side of the page, on the colorful lines.
Repeat this for the other two tasks, using the other qualities you chose.
I love this exercise for two reasons. First, your perspective is always malleable, and second, it is always under your control.
If your actions are a byproduct of how you see the world, your situation, the options in front of you — that’s great news, because all of those can be traced back to your perspective.
A life that is light, calm, interesting, and fun is constantly available to you.
All you have to do is choose to see it that way.
