I like big…
I’d rewatch Jurassic Park for hours just to stare at the Brachiosaurus or flip through library books and imagine sitting in a BelAZ 75710 Dump Truck. Even today, one of my favorite subreddits is r/HumanForScale, where you’ll find people measuring themselves against gigantic skulls, animals, and ancient buildings.
That’s why when the idea for this series first popped into my head, I knew I had to pull from my larger-than-life love affair.
🦣 Furry Prehistoric Tank
Few creatures have captured the wider imagination more than Mammoths (you’re probably picturing one right now).
These friendly ice titans could reach a height of 14 feet and weigh in at over 13,000lbs. Yet, even at their size, they could run at speeds up to 27 miles an hour (for context, the only human to ever reach that speed was Usain Bolt…once…fifteen years ago).
They exemplify power. Intimidation. Warning.
And yet, we admire them. There’s even a VC-funded company working to bring them back to life.
But why should we care? And what the heck does any of this have to do with building better brains?
On the Hunt
For the next few months, we’re going to learn about human mammoths.
People who were larger than life. Names that, from the outside, seem impossibly powerful. Intimidating because of their success. Almost superhuman because of their impact.
And… who also happen to be dead (just like our furry friends).
Together, we’re going to hunt down what made them tick, what made them different, and what made them able to accomplish exponentially more than the average mortal.
I firmly believe that what separates us from them is less than we think. In fact, that thinking is all of it. They had a pattern of the mind, and ordered way of thought, that consistently led to choices, decisions, and outcomes far greater than their contemporaries.
By understanding and adopting what worked for them, we can carve an uncommon path in life. One of outsized returns and rewards and impact.
So, this is your invitation. A call to hunt. A pull to see what they were in the hopes of discovering what you can be.
Welcome to Hunting Mammoths.
Our first mammoth is a man with arguably the best mind-body connection in history, a legacy that massively outsized his short life, and someone who I think would very much be a fan of BPS…the one and only Bruce Lee.
Ready!
